For the last 23 years Rob has been and continues to be a high-pressure test engineer to the oil, gas and chemical industry. This work has taken him around the world as a trouble-shooter in this field, and has occasionally taken him into hostile areas of the world. He enjoys mountaineering and most outdoor activities. Rob started rock climbing at the age of 20. After a few years he became a climbing instructor in the outdoor industry. He started caving at the age of 18 and for the last 28 years has been a member of the Derbyshire Cave Rescue Organisation. At the age of 25 he became a cave diver to enhance the caving experience. He has been part of organising expeditions for caving and climbing both at home and abroad. He was a British Sub-Aqua Club diving instructor and is an advanced diver. Rob became the Diving Officer for Ashbourne Divers, a post that he held for many years. He is qualified in Expedition First Aid and rescue techniques
